Brad's sister came to IL from TX. We took them to St. Louis with our other niece and nephew and enjoyed watching the ball game. Had a great time and the food (although very expensive) was great!

Went to Turkey Run a few weeks ago and enjoyed a canoeing trip with Brad and the boys. Taten had other things in mind other than riding in a boat but overall it was a successful trip that wore us all out. Whew!

Children's Discovery Museum

Gavin and I were talking about ways to enjoy the summer and, of course, a museum always is a hit. We grabbed some friends and went to the Children's Discovery Musuem in Normal. It was fabulous and there was so much to do there for the kids. What a fun day. Hoping to get back there again before school starts back.

Karen and the kids made it down to Illinois. We couldn't help but joke that she had to escape the cold and snow to come to Illinois for vacation. We enjoyed 70-degree weather, pedicures, creme brulee coffee, and of course, just the time together. The kids had a great time, too. These visits are never long enough. Looking forward to visiting them in MN this August. Whoo hoo!

The past couple of months have been interesting to say the least. However, I have new pics up and we've got a couple of birthdays + Valentine's under the belt. Gavin has played soccer for the YMCA and finished his last game this weekend. He and Taten are now in gymnastics. I think they enjoy it but we'll see. The boys have said they'd like to learn to do flips someday. We'll see. Brad turned 35 on 2/18 and mine is 3/1. I made Brad a low-carb peanut butter pie which he thoroughly enjoyed. He's not a big chocolate eater but when you mix up sugar-free triple-fudge ice-cream with a cup full of peanut butter, he's good to go. We missed a huge snow opportunity last week. It hit my home area of Western Illinois of 7-9 inches and everything we got in Champaign was all rain. What nasty weather. We all have spring fever bad and I know the boys are just itching to get outside and stay there. However, with spring will be the lawn-mowing season so I'm apprehensive about that. Our family enjoys having Brad around more and he has accomplished a lot this winter with getting organized for the new season. We're also looking forward to some boating opportunities, too. Oh spring/summer, come soon! I have been reading Julia Child's memoir "My Life in France." It's great and I'm trying to brush up a little on my French from high school and college. There's different areas of the book where she used French and I can't remember some of the words. Oh well. Loved the movie Julie and Julia and highly recommend to everyone. Yes, even the men. On another note, Taten has been challenging our authority to extremes lately and we've been having to take away things. Unfortunately spanking the child doesn't work so we're having to find other ways to get our message across. Right now, I'm blaming his tantrums on the full moon coming up (ha ha). Just ready for him to calm down a bit. Taking away video games, though, seems to hit him hard enough that he straightens up. We have to stay strong. I'm off to bed . . .

A New Year

Many of you know by now that Brad and I had our van broken into while visiting the Kleinmans' in MN. Very frustrating and disappointing. The latest is we have taken all the measures we can so far to repair things on our end. However, today's latest development is another check came through on our account. Now, I had the account closed on Monday (or so I thought) and it's still active. After speaking with the fraud dept. at the bank, they were going to handle some things on their end and of course, I have to go in to fill out affidavits for forgeries. In the meantime, we've had some money credited back which is a relief, but doesn't do much good if the bank isn't going to follow through on closing our account properly. Let's just say we're not going to be working with them as much anymore. And, can I just put this note in here, too? If people working at banks or retail stores ask you for id, do not get angry or irritated. I get so mad when I hear people complain about this. The bottom-line is you could be going through this garbage like ourselves and many others just because someone didn't request id. There.

I've definitely learned a few lessons of my own through this whole thing, if you can believe that. Ha! And, I'm continuously praying for this person that they will somehow come to God and repent. Hopefully they've kept the bible that was in my purse or it at least pricked their conscience when they saw it. I've also been praying for my ability to forgive, which seems to come up more and more these days. But if God finds me worthy, I have to say that I have to find this person worthy, too.

Whew! That being said, MN was excellent. It was so much fun to be back with the Kleinman's and Brad got to see their new home and stomping ground. We had a great time visiting and look forward to it again. Despite the break-in, the sledding (or sliding) hill we went on was a blast. Taten had a close-call accident, but he made it through and of course loves the excitement. Can't wait to find out what "flavor" KK and RK are having from the ultrasound this month and of course, another visit later in the summer.

Hope everyone is having a great new year, so far, and just remember to enjoy life and not put stock in the material stuff. :o)

So great hanging out with the Amjads Labor Day Weekend. A few of us walked away with poison ivy but survived. And, since the trip Brad got us a boat. Our kids are wondering when we're going camping again. Surprising since they weren't excited about the bathrooms.

Monday, the 17th, Taten went to his first day of preschool at Judah Christian. He had a great time and really feels like a big boy now that he has his own school to go to. Today we took Gavin to his first day. Although he's in a class with different kids (with a few from last year's class), he really liked it and I think it will shape up to be a great year. Next Monday will be my first morning w/out both of the kids here. It will be different but an adjustment I'm sure I'll sink into. Brad and I are so proud of them!

Taten starts preschool this Monday. Cannot believe it. Here he is getting his first dental checkup. He did really good. And, he's taken up a new love for fishing especially when he's with his Daddy. Our baby's growin' up!

Minnesota or Bust!

We had so much fun in the St. Paul area! We did as much as we could in such little time. The joy was definitely reuniting with the Kleinman clan and getting to hang out. Didn't get much sleep while we were there; just too much to do. The kids played great together and it was so fun to see them enjoying it. We surprised Karen with a little bit of an early arrival and she spoiled us with everything. The kids enjoyed a great park where we picnicked, we went to Lake Minnetonka where the kids swam and we had great ice cream, of course we got to Mall of America and IKEA (loved it!!), and then it was finally rest day on Wednesday before the trip home. That came at a good time because the kids were finally on meltdown mode. The weather was so wonderful up there and we even picked raspberries at their house. OFF bug spray was our best friend. The mosquitoes love the weather up there and get pretty huge. Whew! What a fun stay and can't wait to go back sometime.

Although it rained, we carried out the July 4th picnic w/the Jones' fam. Had a lot of fun. The highlight was having Brad's sister, Monica, and her family with us, too. Jamie and Kennedy also got to be there. The fireworks on the 5th were fun to watch. The finale, of course, was great and the weather was perfect for it.

The Kleinmans are heading back to MN in the next couple of weeks. Had a chance for some last pictures at their house. Only 3 days on the market and it's now SOLD. Congrats! Last night we had a great time at the farewell party. It was great to see friends from St. Louis (Thanks Wood's and Steele's for making it) and of course our other friends, too. We are going to miss them a lot but know they're just a car-ride and phone call away. Can't wait to visit this summer. Good luck to Randy at his new job and have fun Karen shopping for a new house! Found out Gavin marked up my piano as I sat down to practice for bible study. Of course, it was with permanent marker and you could tell where he tried to wipe it off probably with saliva on his fingers. After some investigating and hairspray, I was able to remove about 95% of it. I also didn't want my students to see it as they sat to play for lessons. I was just telling my best friend today, despite trials in parenting, our lives would just be plain boring without kids.

Here's a pic of my sleeping cherub, Taten, yesterday morning. He woke up at 3am yesterday (I'm assuming from a dream) and was just angry. After arguing with him to go back to sleep (which took about 30 minutes) and telling him he wasn't getting anything to drink but water, he settled down in our room. Oh well. I was to wake up at 6am to meet a friend for exercise, and Gavin had to get up early for school. I didn't care where he went at that point as long as he was fast asleep. Then he got up at 7:45a and never took his afternoon nap. Good times . . .

Taten cracked me up today. He came out with his Diego sunglasses upside down and wanted to play a video game. Of course, I couldn't get him out of his jammies either. On another note, after we brought Gavin home from school, we went outside to enjoy the day. Gavin has been into roller skating since they offered it during PE. He didn't waste anytime and was out the door. I think he's a heart attack on wheels since, when he's fallen a few times, I'm holding my breath not knowing if it was ok or a bad spill. Oh well . . .

Head or Helmet?

Today we watched Gavin play one of his last games of soccer. His head took a beating. During the game, he tripped and slid on his back while banging the back of his head on the gym floor (he all ready had a lump there from a previous injury at home). Then, while he was goalie, a player kicked the ball which came flying at Gavin and smacked him right in the middle of the forehead. He got laid out by it. Brad and I held our breaths, and I even debated on going out to him knowing he was upset. But, of course, after a couple of minutes, he got up, parents cheered, and everything was fine. Later, though, Gavin tells me I should have been out there to help him because he was crying. We were trying so hard to not be "that parent." Soccer has been done for an hour now and he's still talking about it. Thank goodness the ball wasn't a traditional soccer ball. Next Sat. will be his last game and then it's on to basketball.

Yesterday Brad celebrated his 34th birthday. He and I had a nice outing for lunch at Ruby Tuesday's and then last night we had cupcakes with the boys before he went to Bible Study at Jupiter's. Such a special day and the boys love their Daddy. Taten dug right into the cupcakes. Happy Birthday Brad and Happy Birthday to Uncle Brent, too. We miss you! :o)

A couple of years ago, my Dad bought Brad a lawn jockey for Christmas. Brad had a chance to clean it up and repaint it. Believe it or not, Brad has been wanting one since he was a kid. Brad, Gavin, and our nephew, Jamie, went four-wheeling out at the shop. They had a great time. Gavin has a big scratch by his eye. Apparently there was a mishap going over a bump and Gavin kissed the handlebars. At least he was wearing a helmet. Jamie had 2 friends w/him and they were riding on his yellow 90cc four-wheeler. After about 4 hours, they finally came in for supper.

Saturday, Nov. 15th, we celebrated Gavin's 6th birthday. We got to celebrate with our niece and nephew, Kennedy and Jamison, and their brother Jimmy Wayne. We joined up with them at Monical's in Monticello and later, brought K and J back with us to our house for a sleepover. Sunday, I became plagued with my sinus problems, but everyone else got to go to Jupiter's for bowling and games which was great. Gavin was very excited over his "Cars" birthday cake and gifts. Of course, the pizza was great, too. Taten was struggling with the whole birthday thing. Although he all ready celebrated his, he was having a hard time understanding it was Gavin's birthday and the gifts we bought were for Gavin to open and not a moment sooner. Taten is all ready planning a Thomas birthday party for next year. :o)

We love fall. The past couple of weeks the boys have had a great time playing in the leaves. We also invited the Kleinman girls over to join us. This is my favorite time of year. Now that Taten is getting bigger it's fun to watch them get into the leaves.

Today has been a great fall day. The weather is cooler, leaves are on the ground, and a boy and his bike are tearing through! Here is Gavin with his new bike and wearing the helmet he received as a gift from school for raising the most money in his grade level. Very exciting! The video of him receiving the prize is "priceless." The look of shock on his face says it all.

Fun in Minnesota

Thanks Karen for your big influence on getting us up to MN for a getaway. Definitely worth the trip and we were in love with the scenery especially around The North Shore of Lake Superior. We visited Gooseberry Falls, went in to see the sights of Canal Park in Duluth, and met up with Karen and Randy and took on Minneapolis. Whew! What a trip. The pics speak for themselves. :o)

A Big Week!

I had to let everyone know the results for the Walk for Westview. We did it! First, the school, Westview Elem., raised over $13,000! That was amazing! 100% goes to the school. What a great time. Gavin was the top fundraiser in his grade level AND THE ENTIRE SCHOOL. It was all thanks to everyone who pitched in to the cause. Wow! He won a new bike (Photos to come later) and a gift certificate to Monical's. Congrats Gavin!

On another note, Brad and I are off to Minnesota this weekend. Thanks to my mom, we will be kidless. Just taking a breather. This Nov. we celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary so we're stealing away. No, we're not going to the Poconos for those who want to take their shots. Ha!

It's official. Taten is 3 as of today. We had a nice family get-together yesterday with family and our neighbor, Jane. Taten's cake was none other than Elmo. I made it which took a little longer than anticipated but fun. Taten's big present was a big wheel from his Daddy. Gavin's enjoying it more than Taten right now. Ha! Taten got a new train, jammies, a truck and cars, and a savings bond. Go Taten! Unfortunately after all of the excitement, Taten came down with a fever. He's doing better today, though, and hopefully will stay that way. Too much going on.

On another note, Taten's stitches were removed this morning at the Dr. He's on the mend. The Dr. added some stitch glue to the scab and tiny adhesive bandaids which will fall of on their own. Gavin is back in school after a fun weekend. He's learnin' lots. :o)

BATTER UP!!

It's the darndest thing. Right before dinnertime, Gavin was practicing his T-Ball in the front yard. As he was swinging, Taten ran up to him and you can guess what happened next. WHACK!!! Gavin accidentally smacked him in the forehead. It split open to about a half-inch cut. Unfortunately it was bleeding profusely and the cut was deep enough we had to go to the ER for 2 stitches. So, we had our first trip to the hospital. I'm happy to report Taten did not cry at all once the bleeding stopped. Even when receiving the stitches, he did not cry. The Dr. was great with him. He and the nurse commended him for how great he was in the ER. He'd doing just fine today. And after about a week, we should be healed. Hopefully minimal or no scarring. Whew! Mama was in dire need of medication and chocolate. :o)

It's Official! We're Paci-Free!!

My boy is growin' up. I'm excited to report Taten has done pretty well without the pacifier. At night when he's attempting to get settled in, he asks for it, but I can't believe the change in his personality for the better. He's not as baby-ish. It's liberating. Nighttime is still a struggle but eventually he gets to sleep and has made it the whole night. Wake-up time is about the same. His 3-year birthday is the 22nd and I think we got this thing away from him at just the right time.

On another note, Gavin came home yesterday from school reporting in about a girl trying to kiss him and wanting to marry him. Apparently, at one point, she was practically dragging him on the ground to get at him, and his friends had a hold of him from the other end in order to get him away from her. Victim of a tug-o-war. Bummer. Not sure what to think. Kids know there's kissing but I know at this age they don't really understand what it means. Regardless, I'm hoping this ceases at least for a while.

Pacifier Fairy

The Paci Fairy visits tonight. It's time to get Taten off the security mouth piece. On that note, please pray hard for us. The next few days are going to be rough. Despite the fact Taten has a security blanket and puppy to sleep with, he still thinks he needs the paci. We explained to him that the fairy will come tonight and take the paci to another baby boy or girl who really needs it. Taten will find a toy in its place. In order to ensure a smooth transition, Gavin will be sleeping in the spare room so he isn't disturbed. I am confident once he's off of it, he will begin the potty training process hard-core. He's done it for a whole evening until he got his hands on the paci the next day. We'll keep you updated on how it goes . . . Dear God in Heaven let things go well. :o{.

School Update

I was informed tonight there is a girl in Gavin's class named Abby. Hmmm . . . He went on to mention he and a few others like her because she is so "nice." And so it begins. Ugh. Then there's an Alex. Apparently this kid "escaped" today and the teachers had to whip out their walkie-talkies to inform others Alex had broken out. He later was caught and sent to the warden's office, I mean the principal's office. Ha! We need to pray for him, eh? I guess it's not boring.

The First Day!!

Gavin went to school for the first time at Westview. I set his alarm last night for 6:50a. He was up at 6:20a! Well, at least we didn't have to work to get him out of bed. Gavin was nervous and it showed with his made-up song for Westview and his strange walking. Brad and I took him to school and walked him to his classroom, snapped a picture, and left. We both were somewhat quiet on the way back. Just in shock Gavin is old enough to be attending school. When I got home, and Brad went to work, it was sooo quiet. Wasn't expecting that. No Five-Year old to answer to and serve :o). Taten slept in until 8:30a (Grandpa stayed w/him while we went to the school). Needless to say, once Taten woke up, we were able to go about our day and we spent some quality time together, including meeting up with the Kleinman girls at the library. I kept wondering how Gavin was getting along and was anxious to pick him up to hear about his day. The verdict: he had a great day and is excited to go back tomorrow!! Whoo hoo! Thank you Mrs. Braun for making it a fabulous day for everyone. He saw his friend, Grayson, from last year's preschool. He got to have recess and lunch with him. Gavin was also excited because there is a computer in the classroom with Arthur games on it (PBS cartoon). He got his own locker to put his belongings in and they worked on some key points to remember while in their school: respecting themselves, respecting others, and respecting the school property. He didn't mention lunch was quick but he ate his sandwich and fruit cup and that's all I cared about. Who cares about the chips and fruit snacks. Gavin did start talking about a kid in his class that would not obey and listen to the teacher. Apparently this kid could have potential ADD issues. Gavin kept saying the little boy was putting his hands on the fans, running circles around the room when they were supposed to be listening, and playing with all of the instruments during music time. Great. Hope tomorrow is better for the teacher and that boy. Taten missed his naptime today, but that just means they BOTH go to bed at 7:30p. What a relief . . . More to come . . .

Our boys are getting so big. My Dad took these pics during their last visit a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to blog them. They're so good. These guys have been pretty animated lately. Aside from their drama when things don't go their way, they manage to keep me laughing. Gavin asked me one day if a show was "appropriate" for him to watch. Last night at bedtime, he told me he didn't want to have any fun today. He also told me thankyou as I was dusting/wiping down the TV because now he could "see it better." I couldn't decide if I wanted to be mad or grateful he was using his manners. I had to just walk away. Taten continues to talk a lot. Some words you can tell what he's saying and then there's plenty you can't. Oh well, he'll get there. Half the time I have to ask him to show me what he means. I did realize, as his 3-year birthday approaches next month, he'll be potty-training this year (praise the Lord) and then next fall in '09, it will be his turn to go to preschool. It goes by so fast. His big moment has been learning to peddle his little big-wheel. Taten likes to ride it especially when his big brother is out there. It's definitely Ralphie and Randy in the flesh (A Christmas Story).

Jones' Family Reunion

Hold on Roberta! Brad talked his mom into taking a ride with him on the 4-wheeler. I think the ride was a little too exciting for her. It's not her cup of tea. Anyway, last weekend we went to White Hall, IL south of Jacksonville and had a great family reunion. This was with Roberta's family (siblings, nieces, nephews, their kids, etc.). It took place at the Green Gables Inn in White Hall which is indescribably beautiful. Then we high-tailed it out to Uncle Forrest's house to eat more, ride go-carts and 4-wheelers, and hang out the rest of the evening. The weather was great and it was so good to catch up with everyone. Gavin and another cousin, Lane, hit it off and were pals the whole evening. We later spent the night with he and his parents at their place. Lane is the son of Brad's first cousin, Pat. On the way home, we stopped in Springfield for lunch and ran some errands. Then we got back to Champaign.

On another note, we are on the official countdown to school time. Gavin's first day is Aug. 22. He'll have the following Mon. off then will be back for the rest of the week. I have to say, I'm ready. After trying to accomplish some much-needed housework, Gavin's will to entertain himself is zilch!! We are excited to say he has all ready met someone from his classroom and will be seeing a familiar face on the first day. It's exciting to see him start this new chapter in his life . . . Brad continues to work hard but hopefully we'll begin to see a slow-up. Next month we'll be off to St. Louis for the last Cards game, then Oct. to Minnesota for a 10-year anniversary trip. Can't wait to see the Kleinmans' on the way back. Brad's ready for some much-needed R&R. That's it for now.

A Fun Weekend

We were excited to be with our neice and nephew and their family this past weekend. Jamie and Kennedy had a blast hanging out with us. They arrived around 12:30p and got to stay until 6p. We were all pretty tired afterward, but it was definitely worth it. Uncle Brad was sore from playing baseball and Gavin was impressed with himself being able to hit the ball without a tee. They also entertained themselves on a waterslide and bubbles. Taten missed his naptime and its taking a couple of days to get him back on track.

I was amazed how much Gavin and their little brother, Jimmy Wayne, look alike in physique and stature. They were born in the same month and same year (Nov. '02). Gavin shared his bike with JW although we found out he can't steer well. Deb (their Mom) made him get off after a few close calls. He was having fun and that's what matters. Ha!

We topped off the weekend last night by going to the drive-in with friends and seeing the new flick "Wall-E." It's interesting and just remember it's really for the kids. Wasn't Brad and I's top favorite for a Pixar film. Taten stayed behind with Grandma and Gavin was exhausted when we got back around 12am. He had lots of fun, though, and I know he'll want to do it again soon.

This week is our last week of Tee-ball and we get a few weeks off before starting VBS at FCC. Hope you all had a great July 4th.

Don't anyone freak out, this one isn't ours. Ha! We have new neighbors. A Robin set up her home above our front porch and low and behold, she's had 3 babies. Gavin informed me of this a couple of days ago. The only thing is the mama is very jittery. So everytime we open the front door or are just in the front room, you can hear her flying out. Them Mormons can Build!

I took the boys back to the family farm during Memorial Weekend and we went to Nauvoo, Original home of the Mormons until they were driven out. Bummer, eh? The temple was rebuilt not too long ago and of course, it is impressive. Got a shot of the boys with Mississippi behind them. Yes, a new generation of river rats are in the making. :o) Oh yeah, Gavin lost tooth #2 while we were visiting my Grandparents. I pulled it out at their house and Grandma was nice enough to give us an extra pill box to put it in. Ha! He got a $1 and spent it at the Dollar Tree on some light sticks. So exciting.

Gavin the Brave

Just a quick update. Yesterday morning I took Gavin in for the dreaded Kindergarten physical and of course, that came with 4 shots. The poor kid. He took the first two w/out crying. However, I could see his face getting red as he was fighting to hold back the tears. I reassured him it was ok to cry and let it out. Which he did immediately. We got the last two done in the other arm and he took a minute to settle down. I would be lying if I said I was a total rock. I did not cry but definitely had the tears welling up in my eyes. Anyway, that's it. He's done with shots until 6th grade and ready for the big 1st day of school in August at Westview. Today, he's talking like it was such an exciting thing that he had his shots yesterday. He's not afraid, though, to admit it did hurt and he cried. Man in Training . . . :o)

Seeds and a Roundup

Yesterday was such a downer day thanks to the on-going rain and cool temps. Not sure if spring has made it or not. Anyway, I picked up Gavin from a playdate, and he began asking me an interesting question. "Mom, what are we made of?" In which I proceeded to ask him more, wondering in which regard he meant. He said, "Before there were mommies, what were we made of?" I explained a little bit of how God made the 1st man and woman out of dirt. He then goes on asking about us. "What were we made out of?" I just went on to answer, "We're made out of seeds." Of course he was curious if they were like flower seeds and I answered, "yes." I then changed the subject. He's asked stuff like that before and I'm hoping I don't get that kind of question again for a LLOOONNNGGG time. Whew!

On another note, Brad and I took Gavin to his new school, Westview. They had a Kindergarten roundup in which new children coming in could see the classrooms and the teachers. It was very good, and he saw a couple of children he all ready knew there. It sure would be neat if they shared a classroom to make the transition easier. However, I know he'll have no trouble making friends. I cannot believe Gavin is old enough to attend Kindergarten. Anyway, it ended with ice cream served to all of the parents and kids. On the way home, I told Brad how strange it will be when he's there everyday. Then when Taten goes on to preschool, there will be no kids in the house for a short period of time. Might be harder than I thought. :o|.

Today the sun is shining and it's a little warmer. Hoping to get out and enjoy the day. Hope you all have a great weekend. :o)

Last Saturday we had the opportunity to help Dan and Jennifer while they made their big move to Urbana. We watched Livy, going on the big 2 this month, and we all had a great time. Brad loaded up Taten and Livy in the bike trailer while Gavin rode his own 2-wheeler. The weather was great and of course, they all had a good time getting out some energy. After about 10 minutes Livy started to say "Out, out." Guess she got bored.
Later, though, she was ready to do it again. I hopped on my bike and rode with them all .

Praise the Lord we got confirmation today Gavin will be attending Westview right down the road from us. Whew! Now we can sit back a little bit and take breather there. We're excited for him and he'll be attending with the neighbor girl and another student from his preschool. :o)

Toothless Wonder

It's official! Gavin was brushing his teeth this morning and the bottom tooth finally popped out! How exciting. He told me the going rate from the tooth fairy is $1 per tooth. Boy, who would have thunk it? I later took him to school where he showed his teachers and friends. As we were speaking to them, he said that if we leave a note beside his pillow with the right words on it, the tooth fairy will not take the tooth. She'll let him keep it. Boy am I glad we had that conversation. Ha! Our baby's growing up . . .

Book Review "The Glass Castle"

I was talking to my mom the other day saying how I felt I was a failure at parenting and for the life of me could not figure out what was wrong with Taten, if there was anything I can do, etc., etc. Previously, she had loaned me a book called "The Glass Castle" and had asked if I read it yet. Of course, I said no. Who's got time? Anyway, she reassured me I needed to read it and it would change my whole outlook on life. Boy was she right. I picked it up and read it within 5 days time.

The book is by Jeannette Walls and is classified as a memoir. She recounts her dysfunctional life growing up with parents: her Dad a drunk and her Mother who had no maternal instincts. Their lives are constantly on the move with her Dad's obscure ideas about life and her mother's views that everything is an adventure and new opportunities. They find themselves living in shacks with, not only cockroaches and other "bugs", but large river rats, stray animals, etc. The ironic thing throughout the whole book is that her parents had several opportunities before them to get them out of their destitute situation, but they don't. Jeannette and her older sister and younger brother evolve from children going along with the ride to becoming parents to their own parents. You all have to read this book. You'll love it. If you do pick up a copy, I'd love to discuss it with you.

This book does have language in it, but it's straight forward and is an easy read. It's better than TV. :o)

Our Boys . . . The saga continues :o)

Our dear Taten boy. What can you say about him? He's going through the fun-loving stage of the "Terrific Two's" as I'm trying to put a positive spin on it. I have dedicated a verse to him (1 Samuel 16:7) which says ". . . Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." NIV. He's throwing temper tantrums daily, everyday. In my impatience and frustration, I look at him and see this unruly child going crazy, but I realize that God knows his heart and know what's happening with him. That thought gets me through the day when Brad is at work and when we're all winding down for the night. Bedtime has been a struggle lately but it's slowly getting better. It's not great, but getting better. I've been using different tactics and trying hard to share them with Brad. Since Taten has a strong threshold for pain, we're finding spanking and smacking his hands really doesn't work. On to the next! Ignoring him as he cries and reassuring him brother is there when it's bedtime seems to be helping. He's definitely finding his independence and trying hard to show us as best as he can. He says more words these days, too: Blankie, Paci (Pacifier), Poopie, Puppy, Movie, and so-forth.

We are also excited to report Gavin has a loose tooth. Won't be long and the tooth fairy should be stopping by within the next week or so. He's pretty excited and knows it's a sign of him growing up. We'll be looking forward to reporting it.

We hope you all are having a great week. Brad is preparing to move into high gear with the mowing season and I've told some others, I'm preparing for single parent-life. Brad gets so busy with work we're going to be working in some lunch dates here and there in order for him to get to see the boys and likewise. Whew! You all have a good one . . .

Speaking Spanish

Last night we had a funny experience. As I say, never a boring moment. Ever since Brad has had his "Mexican help", he comes home speaking new words, phrases, etc. So, Gavin knows the word "Hola." Well, now Taten knows it. Brad and I listened as Taten repeated the word over and over again, laughing hysterically. I guess our family is becoming "bilingual." Ha! :o)
